Went to the coop this am - it houses 2 turkeys, 8 chickens, 6 guineas. My Tom was in the coop which was unusual..sitting by the fooddish.. I went in and he didn't budge - tried to get him to move and he wouldn't. So I picked him up and carried him outside. He Almost fell when I placed him on the ground - very weak. He immediately pooped a bright yellow poop. Staggered to the othe food dish... very unsure on his feet. Ate a few bites which is abnormal - he's usually gobbling down whatever is there. He very slowly walked back into the coop and laid down. Whats wrong with him???????? The hen is fine.
Please help!

This sounds like black head to me. You need to separate him and dose him with fish zole one tablet daily for five days. Add vitamins and electrolytes to the water and cayenne pepper to the feed. Also get some acidified copper sulfate and add it to everyone's water and worm all of your birds thoroughly.

Good luck!!

Thank you Frank and Catwmn. Shortly after posting i lost electricity - therefore any help the net provided. :-(

The only sypmtom he has of Black head is excessive thirst. My husband caught him drinking from a pool of stagnant water and wondered if that was the issue. I seperated him and put some anti-biotic in his water as it is the only meds I have. I could go to Tractor Supply but they are 45 min away. What should I do?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

The yellow diarrhea is also a sign of blackhead. Is the birds eating at all?

I would add a few tablespoons of cayenne pepper to the feed and also to the water. Make sure the bird is eating and drinking.

The only drug known to treat blackhead is metronidazole which can be found in fish zole tablets you can order from Meyer hatchery. You may be able to find a vet that will give them to you but I had no luck with that at all.
I just successfully saved a turkey by tube feeding her meds and feed for five days. She was very near death when I figured out what was going on.

Feel free to email me if you need to.

Good luck.
