I'm a grandpa - 1st hatch - with pictures

My BR hen Hanna just hatched her 1st brood. She hatched 11 out of 16 eggs. One was a chicken, the adventurous little tyke jumped up into a water bucket on day three and drowned. Hanna stayed on the nest for the first 3 days then abandoned it. I went in and found the 3 poults that hatched but didnt make it and removed them and the other 5 eggs from the nest. I brought the eggs into the house and put them under a light as I thought we might have a split hatch and low and behold we have 3 more hatched out and one their third day with one more egg that we can hear the poult inside. I am a proud grandpa and had to show off Hanna's poults.

Poults are fun. I have my newly hatched peafowl in my office and love to hear the call of a peachick!

Nice job of saving those poults. very cool. I have 20 eggs in the incubator right now.
