Hi all!

I'm pretty pumped to be a member, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can manage to pull this off! I haven't gotten my chickens yet, as I have to convince my family and make sure it's legal in our town.

However, I am hoping to get five hens for both laying and pets: a Silver Laced Wyandotte, a Gold Laced Wyandotte, a Buff Orpington, an Easter Egger, and a Black Copper Maran. If anyone has any feedback on these choices, I'd love to hear it. I live in the northeast, so it can get pretty hot in the summer, and equally cold in the winter. From what I read, these guys do okay in this weather.

I heard about BYC from Pinterest and Google. I'm pretty obsessed with horses and farms and the outdoors in general, and chickens fit right in!

Can't wait to learn more from everyone here!

Welcome to BYC! I'm new to chicken ownership myself -small flock of 2 barred rocks & two Rhode Island Reds. I can't answer about the breeds you're looking at, just wanted to welcome you on board:D I hope you find that you can own chickens in your area. Dont let it discourage you if that's not the case though. There are quite a few people on here that have petitioned their town to allow chickens and won! So don't give up if you really want them... Good luck, you're for a lot of fun!
Btw, if you haven't had a chance, click on the "breeds" tab at the top of the screen. You'll be able to see how other BYCers feel about the breeds you're considering.

. I don't personally have any experience with chickens but sounds like you've picked out some great breeds!
