I'm a new member/mom to four RIR about 15-16 weeks old

I've been reading a lot and love this site. I've just recently been letting them out of their run to free range in my fenced in back yard. I'm concerned that they are not eating enough of their grower/finisher food. I keep it in their coop, but I have water everywhere. Should I put some of their food out too?

Chickens will learn where their food is and come back to eat it if they are hungry. If they are out foraging, they are probably getting all the food they need. You can check to see how full their crop is in the evening to know if they are eating enough.
If you are concerned, you could put some food out in the field, but that might attract wild birds or mice.

Thanks for responding, I didn't think to check their crop. I'll do that tonight. They do go in their run to rest/nap throughout the day, just not in the coop where their food is. They are always eating something in the yard, but turn their beaks up to fruits most people say their chicks like. I'm still learning their behavior.
 
All chickens are individuals. Mine love watermelon way more than they love their green vegetables. They also love to eat meat, probably more than they would bugs. Silly hens.

Welcome to the flock. Yes, check their crops at night, they should be empty by morning. So this is a good way to monitor them. Generally they turn their noses up at something new. If one tries it though, the others follow.
