Hi everyone!
I'm Rina, new into poultry and learning a lot. I'm hoping to get chicks tomorrow from a friend, but the humidity in her incubator was off, resulting in delayed hatching and less chicks. There probably won't be enough for me to bring home 7-10 as I had hoped... I'll either delay chicks altogether, or try to make up the difference elsewhere.
They will be either full leghorn, or half leghorn from the rooster and Rhode Island Red/Americana/Maran.
It was very interesting because the only ones to hatch within 24h of their due date were the green-egged chicks- the hardy little half Americanas. I WANT THEM.
I'm really hoping that I'll get some!
I'm picking up some Nutridrench on my way there in hopes that it'll help the little ones pull through the first week of life, though I'm going to do my best not to get hitched with the ones who were super tardy and half dead... poor babies...
My other poultry dream was to get some Cayuga ducklings from a local feedstore, but they sold out before I could reserve any. Cayugas are hands-down my favorite duck, absolutely gorgeous and stinkin' cute too. Fingers crossed they bring in Cayugas again soon, but it's probably for the best because I'm not well-read on ducks...
