Just joined BYC... several people at work at getting chickens and it sounded like a really good way to spend time with the hubby so I him to build me a chicken coop! Oh, it took some convincing... I promised him that we would use recyclable material that I acquired from a landfill and he agreed. So, I was able to find an old play set someone had thrown away and he advised me that it would be a good starting point. Since then I've been collecting things like fence wire, 2x4's, plywood, even a really nice double insulated window! So with a little reluctance we started construction of the "coop" and at first my hubby was no so enthused but after putting the roof on and one of the nesting boxes I saw a change in him...I went and picked out some paint colors and began showing him different ideas from the BYC website and that's when I first noticed how interested he became... he was really starting to get it to it! I totally love this website, as it has inspired me and my hubby with so many wonderful ideas! We are taking it slow but steady on the progress of our coop so I will keep y'all informed as we go! Thanks again for all your pictures and advise!!

I am a little late to chime in but it is so addicting. Welcome to BYC from southwest Missouri. Looks like the progress is going great. Some day I will show you our coop, made from mostly scrap wood and tin given to us for the siding. We still need to paint it. All in all I have may e 40 dollars invested in the actual coop.
