Hello, everyone,
This is my first year with chickens. I live on twenty acres in a rural area outside of Columbia, SC - the area is called Cedar Creek, and it is always seven to ten degrees cooler than surrounding areas. I am trying to become more self-sustaining; for my family's sake...garden, pond, laying hens, etc.... I currently have nine different types of chicks - most are about six weeks old...I can't believe how big some have gotten already (the white leghorns, especially). Anyway, I am new to the site and to raising chicks. Of my 22 chicks, I know that 16 are female....we'll see about the others. My 11-year old daughter can't wait to see the turquoise, pink, brown, white, etc. colored eggs - I can't wait for the omelets! I will post photos from time-to-time (as time permits...we have a koi pond, 22 chickens, a garden, two dogs, six turtles, ten snakes, seven gerbils, mice, rats, a degu, a sugar glider, and more; so, we stay busy). I am currently looking for ducks, turkeys, and goats - I guess it won't be long before I am Farmer Hodges. I am enjoying this site - I have learned so much....keep the Q&A going....keep posting.
Thanks,
Frank Hodges
