Hey guys, I picked up four wonderful chicks about a month ago and after watching them mature over the last few weeks I'm not 100% sure that these guys are what I was told they were. The two smaller chicks in the front were supposedly Olive Eggers, but have started developing crests on top of their heads. I'll try to get some more recent photos, these were taken on the 11th of this month, so the crest isn't quite as predominate. One is also getting much darker feathers on it's head as well. I googled a couple of other types of chickens like the Crested Cream Legbar, and they looked very, very similar. Anyone else have any suggestions on what they could possibly be?

They are olive Eggers. In order to get one, you cross a blue egg layer to a dark brown egg layer. So you can use a lot of different breeds. I would guess Cream Legbars were used in this cross.

That makes complete sense! I knew a blue and brown egg laying breed were used to create olive eggers, I just wasn't 100% sure what they were crossing! LOL! I'm new to colored egg layers and don't breed chickens, but the genetics of color laying are fascinating to me!
