Ok, first, let me state that yes I know that this thread is useless without pics...I'll work on that part.

My hen just hatched two mixed breed chicks. Our flock is all hatchery stock (Privett specifically), so the gene pool includes who know what.

1) The daddy is a black Jersey Giant.
2) Mamas could be Barred Rock, mottled Java, delaware, buckeye or Jersey Giant.

The chicks look identical to purebred Barred Rocks. 4 toes, straight comb, black with white spots on their head. So, my guess is BR/JG or Del/JG.....boys. But....their legs are dark and the spot is fairly well defined...decent enough anyway.

They are only week old, but the tips of their feathers are barely white, so I am sure they are barred, whatever cross they are.

Oh!!! Can chicks be born with slight fuzz on their legs and then it go away? We have a salmon Faverolle rooster, but these chicks don't have 5 toes, one definitely doesn't have muffs, the other has mildly fluffy cheeks, but not like a Faverolle. Plus, the fuzz is only on the outside of the shanks, not down to the toes. A couple of my Welsummers have it and it is just just light fuzz (and they are a year old).

So, ya'll agree they are probably boys? I have yet to figure out how they could be girls.

Well....we've been wanting to replace our JG roo since he is too aggressive towards DH (no matter how many methods of reform we try!!). Maybe one of these two will be nicer. If not, they'll be nice on the dinner plate.
