I'm getting more chicks.

So, i'm getting more chicks and I was wondering... when the chicks get bigger do they have to have another pin from the older ones we have? Just a quick question before I get more.

It depends on the size of your coop and run. The standard recommendation is for at least 4 s.f. in coop, and 10 s.f. in the run per bird. Any less space than that is an invitation for behavioral problems. Read Azygous posts re: integrating chicks into an existing flock.

Look up wooly hen and get them in with the big girls as soon as possible. Use one way gates. When my chicks were 4 weeks old, they were integrated into the flock and I took down the one way gates.

You do need space, measure the space you have before you buy the chicks. Lack of space can cause awful wrecks.

First, make sure you have enough space to add more birds.

I brood new chicks in the coop and integrate starting at 3-4 weeks old.
