So, about a month ago, one of my Pekins was acting a little off. She didn't want to go into her night pen, but I finally herded her in. The next morning, she was dead. I only had two ducks, so I went and bought a female Khaki Campbell to keep the other one from feeling sad. Well, this morning I went to let my ducks out - 1 pekin, 1 khaki, and they were fine. Got in the pool. Walked around the yard, nothing seemed amiss. I went to a meeting for an hour. I went outside to see about their eggs (they usually lay in the morning around 10:00 am) and my Pekin was floating dead in the pool.

Now I don't know what to do. I can't just keep buying single ducks and I don't have space for a whole flock. I've lost two ducks in the past month and while the first one seemed ill, the second one seemed fine. She was laying every day without a problem. Hubby says he thinks she must have had a heart attack because she was so big (but her belly didn't drag on the ground or anything).

A little information - My daughter brought home two Pekin chicks last year. They free range an acre fenced back yard during the day. At night, they get layer feed with 1/4 tsp Rooster Booster and 1/2 tsp tumeric along with one borage, fish oil, flax tablet (melted and sprinkled on their food).

Can anyone help me? I can't get another duck. That just won't work. Clearly, I'm not fit to keep ducks so if anyone can take my Khaki Campbell, or if you have suggestions about how to keep her from getting lonely. I'm just done.

That's a shame.
Here's a link for you.

The best course of action would be to send a dead bird to your poultry diagnostic lab so you know what killed them.
Mississippi Veterinary Research & Diagnostic Laboratory (Main)
3137 Hwy 468 West
Pearl, Mississippi 39208-9007
Phone: 601-420-4700
There may be others since it says it is the main lab. Just call and they'll give particulars and how to get the bird to them. Many will send you a FedEx label. Just keep it refrigerated.
