We have always given our chicks medicated chick starter. I don't know what part of Alaska you are in but most places that sell chicks have it. Good Luck

from Tennessee They eat little crumbs. Do you have a heat lamp from the feed store or hardware store, and a red light bulb for it? What kind of bedding or shavens are you going to use. What kind of feed and water bowl are you going to use. Can a cat or dog get to is. Can the heater fall?
You'll find everything you need to know buy using the search box at the top right you need to. Where are you going to keep them?

Yes i agree use chick starter. There is medicated and non-medicated. I always use the medicated chick starter. Only because it is like getting an infant vaccinated. Better safe than sorry. But again it is up to you which you which starter to use.

Thanks for your advice!! I'm going to get medicated chick starter for my chicks. Oh and thanks for the warm welcome! This place is very friendly

Hello from Georgia! I had my chicks vaccinated at the hatchery before they were shipped and I did not use the medicated chick started because I just thought that was too much meds for them. I used the non-medicated chick started until they were 10 weeks old. I also slipped them some treats when they were about a month old. It was so funny to watch the babies chase a worm around the brooder! My flock is doing great and laying 5 to 7 eggs a day at almost 8 months old.

I feed my chicks just plain old chick-starter and yesterday I scrambled them some eggs and put some salt on them and they went CRAZY for it! LOL

Scrambled eggs are very good for chicks as well!
