Welcome. After years of mistakes, a few cost savings I can think of is: 1. make your coop walk-in and very roomy. Something your chickens can stay in all day if they have to - for instance, we have a hurricane coming and my chickens will have to spend two days in their coop. But...they have 50 sq/ft per chicken and I can sit in there with them. 2. Make your run big and secure, including the roof - 1/2 inch hardware cloth is your best friend.
