Hello Everyone.
I'm new here, and have owned chooks as an adult for about 18 months.
Currently I have 3 isa brown's (Raphy chook, Millie chook and Katie chook) who were named by my niece and nephew when they were staying here. And as of a few days ago I have three Highline's (Henrietta, Bradstreet and Sydney), who aren't due to lay until November.
I found this sight as I was looking for tips on how best to introduce the chickens to each other. At the minute they are in separate fenced areas of my backyard with their own shelters...I'll wait until the girls are all roughly the same size before I let them meet without fences, which is obviously a few months away yet.
I'm an aussie, in case you hadn't guessed by me referring to chickens as chooks. My mothers nickname for me was Gertrude Alphonses the chook, as she thought I behaved like a little old hen arranging her nest as I played with my toys. My cat Maurice's nickname is Chicken. My very first chooks that I had as a toddler were guinea fowl (aka silly chooks). I've had to ban my father from feeding chooks at the table in my garden, as it's a little disconcerting when you have a chook on each arm of your chair, and one on the table all clamouring to eat your lunch...resulting in you having to hold the salad high above your head, until they stop shouting at you and grudgingly return to their grazing of the back garden. So all in all I seem to lead a very chooky life.
