Something got my smallest (and only Ameraucana) pullet today. I'm hoping you guys can help me figure out what it might've been so I can hopefully take precautions.
GRAPHIC!
I found her dead in the overgrown area the girls like to hang out in (they're in a large privacy fenced yard) feathers everywhere. Her head was removed, neck stripped of feathers. Her side was opened, organs still intact, 1 thigh and wing looked completely eaten and *clean*. The weirdest part to me is how clean everything was. Like something stripped the bones, a few small bones were broken too. There was no blood and because she's white it would've been easy to see.
I'm not sure when it happened either, I found her when I went out to feed after work. She wasn't stiff or very cold like I'd expect (high for today was like 57 and she was in the shade).
Any ideas? I'm thinking about keeping my last cockerel so they can have a rooster to protect them. My dog is a great protector but he's inside while we're at work so that's not helpful.
