So, I just adopted a city rooster. Bought as a chick in May, as a hopeful pullet. I have had him 3-4 days now. Yesterday, I noticed that he was eating kind of slow and taking a little extra time to swallow. I picked him up and found that he had a lump, maybe a little smaller than a ping pong ball, in his throat just below his wattles and above the first curve in his neck. It was squishy and felt of the cracked corn he was eating. I brought him inside to push water down to get it moving. After an hour of trying to massage with olive oil and vomiting, I got the lump to go away. I then tube fed him, which called him down. He was breathing fine through the entire ordeal, from lump to finish. I kenneled him with medicated water and wormer. Today, I thought maybe he could try a little chick feed, as his crop was empty, but it too got stuck in the same spot. So, I got two nickel sized lumps out and forced water down his throat. How can I get this to stop? He seems to breath just fine with the lump, but he needs help getting his food down. I have never had so many problems with my birds, as I do now!
