A family member picked up some wild type turkey eggs at an auction and gave them to me to hatch. I put them in the incubator on MAY 5th. Today, while turning the eggs, I noticed that one was hatching. I now have a newly hatched, walking around, turkey chick that came from an egg that only spent less than 17 days in my incubator. I guess that this chick was really impatient.
I figure that the mother tukey probably sat on them for a while and then they were stolen and taken to the auction. But if that's the case, then how did this chick survive. The eggs were brought to the auction before 8 am, and spent the day in the outside air. I didn't put them in the incubator until 3pm. So they spent all day without any heat.
Hopefully I get a few more miracle chicks, or some regular timed chicks. Those eggs were expensive.
