Hi,, I just recently have a baby chic from my Seabright who is very protective of her little baby... one, is this normal for her to just freak out, I do need to clean the water and feed... should I leave her and baby alone except to feed and water or should she get used to me.. very new to having Mom involved always used a heat lamp ... no Mom... she gets so upset I don't want her to hurt little baby... please advise how to deal with her so I don't do something wrong, also she and baby are in the coop with the others just separated safely...thanks Kristin

One of my hens will not let me in the coop to clean when she has chicks. I like having a very protective mom around so none of the other hens or roosters will hurt the chicks. just give them water and food like normal and when the chick is old enough the mom will push it away and you will have your chance to get the chick used to you.

Ive never had a hen hurt a chick unless its not their own. I think her last intention would be to hurt her baby shes more focused on protecting it. and your welcome.
