Imprinting??

Hi everyone, so we decided to incubate 7 duck eggs last month and only one duckling has made it out. We have never had ducks before and it worries me that she is getting too lonely she always peeps when I'm not in the room and it just breaks my heart... In about a week we are giving her to our neighbor because we can't keep her. She has imprinted on me ALOT and im worried that when she goes there she might get sad? Let me know your thoughts about having a single duckling and about sending her away.

does your neighbor have more ducks? even imprinted ducks (my ducks are imprinted) need to have other ducks with them

Get rid of it now because if you wait the peep peep might be loud quaking which will be much more of a problem. So sad that you only got 1 of 7, i know it sounds heartless but its better to rip the bandage off all at once so to speak.

Whatever you decide you need to think about the comfort of your duck but you need to think of your ducks safety first. Giving your duck to a neighbor is better then giving your duck to some rando on Craigslist that likes duck soup. If you cant get another duckling i think your best bet is too try and break the bond before the duck forces you to get rid of it.

that’ll be fine then! just make sure the neighbors spend a lot of time with the duckling and bring him/her outside daily so he can see the other ducks
