Imprinting...

I have 3 eggs in the bator, one has started peeping tonight, the others are rocking a bit. They are on Lockdown.

I have to leave tomorrow until saturday. My mom will be watching them for me, but I am slightly worried. If they hatch while I am gone, and mom messes with them, will they imprint on her and think she is "mommy"? When I come home, if I step in, will they accept me as their new "mommy"? I want them to be friendly to people, so the more people that have contact with them the better, but they are going to be my babies, I care for the poultry/fowl so i don't want them to imprint on her too strongly if i am the one who has to feed them... I don't know if that makes sense.

So my question was, if she is the first one they see, will they bond to her stronger than they will me?

I'm also kind of worried about if someone has trouble hatching, but if that happens I can talk her through it, she has seen me help before.

Thanks in advance!

My blue gosling saw my son first, and is now scared to death of him. I think when they are that young it is more of a who cares for them thing.

The important thing is for them to imprint on HUMANS. They will attach to whomever takes the most time with them. I say you have nothing to worry about

I'm also working with imprinting. I got two day-old goslings and spend time lying on the bed with them and a large rag towel LOL and petting and letting them nibble my fingers and clothing (and hair). I'll have to set limits on them later, but for now I allow it to ensure they bond with me. I work four days a week.

It's good if they have a general bond with other people, or else they won't let anyone get near you. Ask me how I know. If anyone comes over, they are forced to hold and pet my goslings

I agree. As long as they get imprinted is the important thing, they wouldn't reject you till they are a couple weeks old. Just take over when you get back and they'll be fine.
