I've been working on my Brown coturnix quail for the past few years trying to improve their size. I'm getting decent results, but it's coming time to add some new blood to fresh'en them up. At some point in time, new blood will have to be added to any flock.

My question is,

What kind of set back is this when you have to add blood from smaller birds?? I know right now there is some big birds out there. But somewhere down the road, it will be rather hard to find new blood as big as some are breeding..

How big are your birds?

You can add mobyquail for genetic differentiation, and maybe a size boost, without effecting the color much.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret! Coturnix are not the most consistently sized birds on the planet.

The answer to your question is....None.

Congratulations, You have failed to create a 16+ pound coturnix in any color. Universities, with deep pockets have done the same, so you are doing fine!
