I started doing chickens as a solution to psychological therapy for my granddaughter. We have had chickens for 7 years.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 4 hens and 4 baby chicks. We had a rooster and 7 hens but on Wednesday a racoon visited the hen house. He got my rooster who had been with us for 4 years and 3 hens. We were devastated to have lost pretty boy, Dark eagle feathers of the night 1 and 2.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Americana, silkie, Easter egger
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
From googling

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Love to read and quilt but haven't been able to do either for the last 5 years. I have guardianship of my 2 granddaughters ages 12 and 9. Full time care giver to my 85 year old mother who had a stroke and school bus driver.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Love living in the country on 4 acres, hate not having the internet access that I would have if we lived in town. Attempted to raise two cows became very expensive so we decided that we would do just chickens. My granddaughter got a lot of improvement on her mental issues by raising her chickens a lot more than what therapy was giving her and a lot cheaper. She was diagnosed as PTSD, ADHD, and abused child syndrome.

Chickens has been a lifesaver for this family.
