Hello, I am in Missoula (technically right outside the city limits 2 1/2 miles). I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions about the Spring Fling in Hamilton? I know it happens in May, but not much more than that. We are going to have to buy new chicks this fall (thank you local fox) and I'm going to end up with too many because of shipping minimums. My kids are in 4H (this is their first year) and I want to breed our own show line, but have to keep my chicken numbers fairly low. Can anybody enter chickens in the Fling? Do you have to be a registered breeder or anything? Are all the chicks babies, or are there chickens that are a few months old? Are all the chicks there purebred, or are there crossbreeds too? We want to see who colors out good and would make good show/breeder birds for the kids so if I take chicks they'd be a few months old. I don't want to ship chickens out anywhere (since I haven't got a clue how to go about that), but I don't want to end up with a ton of extra birds after ordering/hatching. I'm not comfortable doing a Craig's list ad to get rid of chicks, and while I don't mind butchering, we are thinking about going for Bantams and those don't exactly make a meal bird. Can anyone help? Idea's? Thanks so much!
