I'm using the purina layer crumb with oyster shell . Is that enough or should I get something more . I also have grit . I just read that cracked corn is more of a treat and shouldn't be given everyday , is this true and what else could I give them . I lost my hen yesterday but I have a friend that is going to give me another hen so my handsome man won't be lonely . I do plan on getting more hens but I want to be ready so I don't go through what I did yesterday . She was a sweet girl . Also is it OK for the rooster to eat the layer crumb

I have a cockerel in my flock of 10 pullets. I do not feed layer mix to them. Instead I feed an All Flock type of food with 1% calcium and 20% protein. I feed grit and oyster shell in separate containers.
Non-laying pullets, broody/molting hens and cockerels/roosters do not need the extra calcium that a layer does.
Sorry again about your hen. :hugs
You might want to consider taking 2 hens if your friend is willing.

Should I get a different feed, would it hurt him if he eats it ?
