I have a chick that is from a Barred Rock hen and either a Jersey Giant or salmon Faverolle roo.
The chick is barred (male) and, now 4 weeks old, has tuffs over the ears, no beard, 4 toes and partially feathered legs (one leg is fairly well feathered, the other is sporadic at best). Oh...and a straight comb, which I wouldn't have expected anything different. This leads me to believe that dad is the Faverolle. Initially, the chick didn't have feathered legs (a couple spots were more like my Welsummers, which have tiny fuzz patches that aren't feathers and only an 1/8" at most in the adults).
So, I don't see a beard and the feathering on the legs is just now indicating that they are, in fact, true feathers (not fuzz patches). The cheek feathers are still growing in, so maybe the ear tuffs will grow into muffs.
Is this an example of incomplete genetics resulting from a breed cross?
