Please be kind. Normally I don’t assist hatching eggs and this last hatch was no exception. I shut off the incubator last night thinking I’d dump the duds and clean out my incubator this morning. My house is typically 72 degrees or less at night this time of year. A little while ago I started removing shells and eggs and I hear a peep. I started pulling the eggs that were still intact and found the one with the live chick who was yelling..,” hey, I’m alive, I’m still here!” Oh my god! I hurriedly got him/her out of the shell and turned the incubator back on and put her in to warm up and dry off. I feel horrible. That poor chick was cold and wet and stuck all night. What an incredible will to live. He/she is all contorted ( egg shaped) still. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar situation? Will she uncurl after she warms up a bit? Is there anything I can do to help her? Here’s a photo. Any advice would be appreciated.

So this morning still can’t sit or stand. Heads still contorted and the chick can’t hold its head up. Toes are curled on both feet. This is why I don’t assist hatches. 🤦‍♀️

She’s doing better. We taped up her curled toes and she’s able to stand and walk, albeit not very well. She walked over to her waterer and got herself a drink without falling in. The force is strong with this one. One leg seems to be a bit splayed but I’ll deal with that once the toes straighten out. Hopefully we can get her straightened out- literarily and figuratively.

Hope your Little is still improving! We had free range ducks as kids, and when mama would bring the babies out, my sister and I would go check the nest for stragglers. Once we found an ice cold egg with a little beak sticking out (and ants climbing in and out). We put the egg under a desk lamp (what we had available for heat) and killed the ants as they came out. That little duckling slowly came back to life, hatched out (we probably helped it), and lived a full healthy life. So you never know what will happen of you just apply a little effort, hope, and love :love .
