Hey y'all, so I've been in the incubating game for a little while now. But, I am about to put 40 black copper maran eggs into the incubator tommorow (04-16) and was wondering on any advice? The best light to use to candle since there so dark? By ehumidty setting on the first 18 days and after that? Since the shell and membrane are so much harder I know humidity doesnt release as much as others do. Also does the peroxide thing really help with hatching rate? Some advice on that would be great too, thanks.

Since candlers can be quite expensive, what I recommend is a small LED flashlight, I have one and it works perfectly. If you can find one, get a very slim one so the light doesn’t shine (making it hard to see) during candling.

For candling dark eggs like Maran eggs I use 2 lights 1 on top and 1 from bottom.I recommend 1000 lumen tactical flashlights. You can get 2 pack for $12 on Amazon. If you cut toilet paper roll in half and tape it to end of light it seals perfectly around eggs.

I sprayed my BCM eggs with HP on my last 2 hatches and had a reasonable hatch rate, but I cant tell you that I would have had different results without it. I will spray again as I do believe that it helps with cutting down on bacteria on unwashed/slightly dirty eggs. It doesn't do any harm, let's put it like that. I incubate 35 - 40% humidity and 99.5 - 100 degs. temp. Air cells, for the most part, cooperate.
