I have just experienced hatching chicken eggs for the first time last week and now we are moving on to guinea eggs. What are the main diffence from incubating chicken eggs? I know 26-28 days vs 21. With my chicken eggs my incubator just has the wire bottom and I had turned them mark x and o half a turn 3x a day. Will that work the same with the guineas eggs? Then I stop turning on day 23 correct? Temp should be the same 99.5 correct? I’ve read lots of mixed things about humidity. What’s a good range for for first 23 days and a good range during lock down? I kept my chickens around 50-55% then increased to 75% but while lots were hatching it got all the up to 85%. I hatched 20/30, 5 infertile 3 early quitters and 2 died trying to hatch. I have 15 eggs but hopefully will have a few more tonight to put in the incubator tomorrow.

I use an auto turner and the eggs are turned once every three hours. Research has shown that the more frequently the eggs are turned, the better.

I incubate at 30% to 35% humidity and lockdown at 65% to 70% humidity. I move the eggs from the incubator to the hatcher on day 25. Some people go to lockdown earlier. @PeepsCA would not move her eggs to the hatcher until they were internally pipped.

what’s the difference in the incubator and a hatchet?!

An incubator can be used as a hatcher. A hatcher does not have an auto turner and is typically only used for hatching eggs, not incubating them. In this case both my hatcher and incubator are cabinet models. It allows staggered hatches without affecting the eggs that aren't ready for lockdown. The incubator remains at the parameters that are set for the incubation phase while the hatcher gets set for the parameters that are desired for hatching such as no turning of the eggs, increased humidity and if following many recommended lockdown settings, a one degree lower temperature.
