Incubating eggs

Hello, have just had 42 eggs in an icubator with 16 hatch successfully. Discovered 10 unsuccessful chicks in eggs that didn’t hatch. We had a thunderstorm during incubation period (no loss of power to incubator) is there any theory truth to thunderstorm interfering with development? Thank you

Also How long do we leave the chickens under lights? Many diffferent opinions out there.

We had a lot of storms last year when I was incubating but I never had drastic #’s lost.

They need heat until fully feathered and then they need weaned off the heat.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens Wombat75. I count it a privilege to respond to your post. I have not come across any studies about the affects of thunderstorms on ovo development. An amazing thing I learned during my first hatch was those cute little gals and guys will "tell" you how they like their light/heat. Example: If they gather together in a bunch they are saying "Burrrr!" If they are scattered all over the brooder with a wing span length or greater between them they are telling you - "Hey kiddo, can you turn down the heat?" Keep an eye on them, they will tell you when to shut the lights off. Enjoy!
