Have you ever incubated 2 week old (or older) quail eggs? How did it go? I just ran 24 2-3 week old eggs through the incubator to day 9 or so, everything started to develop (except 1) so good fertility even weeks past laying but 50 percent were day 1-3 quitters and another was a mutant (my first in home raised eggs) and anything over 2 weeks of age was over a day behind developmentally (looked like an early day 3 late day 4). I wonder how many would make it to hatch? Really interesting but probably won’t contribute to posterity!

It could be something like crossbeak, missing an eye, a weird colour or feather patter, extra legs (though those are usually twins that merged), etc.
i hatched quail and i got one that is all white with a dark spot on his head. he was NOT supposed to be white. his genes did not in clude white

In this case the English whites genes are recessive, so both parent birds had a copy of the gene in order to produce the phenotypic English white, which is usually a co-dominate gene.
Homogeneous = Eglish white
Heterogeneous = Tuxedo
