Been around chickens since 1960s and had chickens myself off and on over the years. Have a situation that has never happened before to me or ever known someone with this problem. Thirteen year old Granddaughter put hatching eggs into incubator, not her 1st, 2nd or 3rd time. We have a hatching book that we use to put dates start, lock down and results. Well, she thought she had written it down but now we find out she apparently forgot (she has A.D.H.D. but no excuse, she has the notebook). Mistakes are made and this is her learning time, but I don't know how to help in this case. We have guessed what the hatching date should be but it is entirely a guess. Eggs were all fertile and developing well, took out egg turner and now they seem to be duds. Eggs so full that you can't see anything and usually we can see movement. Now what? I did our normal tapping on eggs but not hearing tapping back except maybe for 1 or 2 out of 16-20 eggs. Usually we can hear something... Has anyone ever had this problem happen? I figure in a few days, we could do the water/wiggle test but don't want to risk it if there is a better idea. I know about keeping the about 99 degrees and pointed end down. Just think sometimes it can risk hatching and looking for ideas.

I wait until the chicks internally pip before locking them down. You can candle them to see when this happens. Once the air cell develops a slant that time is getting close so stop turning them at that stage.

Good luck with the hatch.

Thank you. All in all we got 15 out of 20, 2 nasties (those stopped developing), 5 had to help hatch, 1 hatched on it's own and died the next day. These are Polish chicks which are harder to get hatched (breeder agrees) but we are happy with results. They started hatching 2/11/21 and moved 12 under our broody Lavender Orpington. The 3 smallest and last hatched are in the house. Mom is doing fine but can't fit any more under her.

They are adorable and your Mama hen looks very content with her brood. 🥰

I have read that the vaulted skull can cause the chicks difficulty when they hatch as it can hinder their ability to position themselves properly.
