This might be the wrong for it but couple questions. finally have pheasant and chukar eggs to put in the incubator. I have heard to use forced air circulating and at the same time do not for pheasants and chukar. Which way is best? I have Little Giant 9200 with forced air, that can be removed. I didn't have to much sucess last season. maybe 10% hatch. I also use Springfield digtial termometer which varies from the termometer it came with. Which one should I use and what temp and humidity? I had temp at 99.7 with 50% humidity.

thanks for you help.

YOU NEED TO CALIBRATE YOUR HYGROMETER... I HAVE YET TO SEE AN LG OF ANY CONFIGERATION MAINTAIN A 50% HUMIDITY WITHOUT SERIOUS HELP, LET ALONE 1 WITH A FAN. WHILE THEY ARE GREAT LIL CHICKEN EGG COOKERS THEY USUALLY FALL WAY SHORT FOR GAMEBIRDS... MOST OFTEN ITS THIS INHERENT DESIGN FLAW OF LACK OF HUMIDITY THAT EFFECTS THEM.

DO A BYC SEARCH FOR CALIBRATING HYGROMETER... THERES SEVERAL POSTS THAT WILL WALK YOU THROUGH IT ALREADY POSTED AND AVAILABLE FOR READING.

IME- FORCED AIR WORKS BEST... 99.5 AT THE TOP OF THE EGG*
45-55% HUMIDITY DURING INCUBATION, STOP TURNING LAST 3 DAYS AND UP HUMIDITY TO 65%

I ALSO HATCH IN THE UPRIGHT POSSITION BUT EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN WAYS

Thanks for the info. I tired calibrating my hygrometers. One read no higher than 55% the other 60%. Can they be both off by that much? Might go down to reptile shop and pick up one of there hygrometers and see if I have more luck. I also live in a very dry area Las Vegas, NV could that also effect my calibration?

IF YOU USED THE SEALED ZIP LOCK BAG METHOD TO CALIBRATE THE RESULTS ARE WHAT THEY ARE... NO MATTER BEING IN VEGAS OR THE LOUSIANNA SWAMPS... AS FAR AS BEING OFF THAT FAR? ANYTHINGS POSSIBLE. IF DONE CORRECTLY IT SHOWS 1 IS READING 20% LOW AND THE OTHER 15% ??? NOW THAT SHOWS THEY ARE READING LOW... YET MY 1ST POST SITED THE FACT THAT LG'S ARE NOTORIUS FOR BEING TOO DRY AND USUALLY RUN LOW HUMIDITY, THAT WOULD CERTAINLY BE REINFORCED BY THE LAS VEGAS ADDRESS

MAYBE A TRIP TO THAT STORE MIGHT BE IN ORDER? AS THE RESULTS FROM YOUR TEST DONT MATCH THE EXPECTED OUTCOME. I HAVE ROUTINELY AND STILL DO (ON PURPOSE AS A MATTER OF FACT) HATCH IN WHAT MANY CONSIDER VERY HIGH HUMIDITY (IT WORKS WELL FOR ME-- WE'LL JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT)... IF THIS WERE THE CASE LAST YEAR WITH YOUR EGGS YOU WOULD HAVE OR SHOULD HAVE HAD MUCH BETTER THAN 10% HATCH AS GAMEBIRD EGGS DO BETTER IN HIGHER HUMIDITIES THAN MANY OTHER DOMESTIC POULTRY EGGS LIKE CHICKEN OR GUINEA... PERHAPS YOUR HYGROMETERS ARE JUST PLAIN BONKERS??

Well got a hygrometer that reads right. I think skip on the digtial hygrometer they take for ever to adjust. It was weird with my hatch last season. The chicks where developed but did not hatch out of eggs. Only a few hatch on there own. I waited 5 days after hatch date before I broke the shell. It sucked bad.

I use a springfield... i think lol I would have to get up and look for sure but anyway I use one atleast similar. I never use it more than twice, they are very cheap therefore they dont tend to read correctly for very long. So if you want to use a digital, be sure you replace it atleast every two incubations. I havent had any trouble so far with mine doing that. I have had trouble with previous digitals though. Just have to find something that works for you.
