So I had a 1588. I liked my 1588. But, they have a couple new models that are supposed to be as good.

The 1583 is forced air , large window with a "wafer thermostat".

The 2362-N has a smaller window, forced air and a "wafer thermostat".

What the heck is a wafer thermostat and how does it vary from the temperature control of the 1588???

I liked the easy operation of the 1588. The "set it and forget it" mentality was nice. I like the forced air - I got way better hatches with it. I'm just not sure about the thermostat thing......not familiar with it at all.

There isn't a major price difference, I'm just wondering if any one has experience with either of these models.

Thanks,
Sarah

The 1588 has a digital/electronic thermostat that is more precise than the wafer thermostat. The wafer thermostat is filled with ether and expands/contracts against a microswitch...works but is less precise and wafers can periodically go bad (a digital, 1588, thermostat can go bad to but apparently not as often.

Bottom line is... The 1588's digital thermostat is more precise and more reliable than the gas-filled wafer thermostats.

Hope this is close to being right and that it helps,
Best wishes,
Ed

Well, I'm no expert, but that's basically the jest of it all.
