Hi! I’m wondering if anyone might have some advice for me. Well I’m posting this for my Dad. He recently bought a Little giant incubator and has done two batches. One had 30 eggs and he had three hatch, and the last one of 20 only two pecked holes in the egg but passed away shortly after. He kept the temperature right on point the whole time. The second batch he had a rotten egg and had to clean it out, and the humidity went 6 degree too high for a short time but other than that everything was right on the whole time. He’s getting more hatching eggs in the mail soon and is worried he’ll have another failed attempt. Any advice for a newbie?

My first thought is to ask what thermometers is he using? Most of us who have experience hatching won’t trust the temperature that the incubator displays. They are often incorrect. We get one or more other thermometers that we trust, or that we have tested to determine how accurate they are.

I know for my Genesis 1588 Hovabator, it keeps its temp rock steady the whole duration, but I go by a different thermometer that I place inside. The inside one reads just under 100F, while the display on top of the 1588 reads 97.5. If I were to increase the temp until the display read 99.5, my eggs would actually be incubating at about 101.5. Maybe your dad’s incubator thermometer is off by even more than two degrees.

He’s been using the one that came with the incubator. That’s great info!!! Thanks! I will have him invest in a better thermometer. 👍👍

Is it still air or does it have a fan? Is there an egg turner?

when he has received the eggs are they in good condition? Does he let the shipped eggs sit in an egg carton, undisturbed, pointy side down, for 24 hours before setting the eggs?
