Thanks but I already tossed out the whole batch of eggs and started over. I decided to crack each egg and check for if there was any signs of life. Though rotten and smelly looks like all but one died around 7 days into the incubator. One had a chick in it, yoke was absorbed. Not sure why but it didnt hatch.

I took and opened mine up just a minute ago. did one in the house BOOM rotten egg all over my shirt. I think a few days ago when my incubator got to high in humidity it caused all but one to rot. one egg had a fully formed chick in it. I knew one would. as the day it was high i kept hearing chirping but couldn't figure out which egg it was. and didn't feel right helping a chick out. I've helped in the past and it caused a chick to suffer for 2 days before dieing. Sometimes nature needs to take it's course.
All the other eggs were rotten and blowing up. Not cool.
I have new eggs. Hopefully they will do good. I am checking it every few minutes (though i shouldn't) to make sure that the incubator has the right humidity. I'm trying lower humidity this time. Last time I allowed it to go up to 60% This time i'm gunna try for 45% to 50% then at day 18 go up to 60%.

That seems like a lot rotten eggs, even with humidity issues. I wonder if the person you got the eggs from had washed the eggs before you got them, which could introduce bacteria into the egg. I also try not to handle the eggs too much, candling them only on the 7th and 14th day. Rotten eggs, yuch

What bothers me is i candled them on day 7 and those were all the live eggs. I have a feeling that someone messed with them right after or something. I am guessing the 14 days of heat plus humidity issue didn't help keep those eggs from getting completely rotten.
This time around, I've only candled one egg, was curious if after a few days i could tell if anything was in there. It's pink instead of glowing yellowish. So hopefully something is in there.
I plan to candle on day 9, then day 17 (at night when i take them out of their egg cartons and put them in their own little box in the incubator).
Those eggs from the second batch were free. They were from my parents. I am thinking a sanitation issue mixed with stressed chickens? Found out my dad had moved the chickens from one pen (that they were hatched in and never been in any other areas in their life) to a new pen that he'd built out of my old dog kennel. and when he was collecting the eggs he was building them a shed with nests and all that. So they were under a lot of stress. If I'd known that before I'd have put those eggs in the fridge to eat instead of trying to hatch them.

I know what you mean, you want good eggs from the start. Especially if you like me, I kinda get attached to those things once they're put in the incubator.

I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one. I get really attatched. I put a lot of effort into getting the eggs to hatch. All that time arguing with myself about when to candle the eggs, and if the incubator needs checked yet or not. I am now on checking it 5 times a day, turning the eggs only 3 times a day.

Mine all started hatching tonight. It is weird that it is 3-4 days late and they all are hatching. I think the humidity too high makes for late hatching. I cry when mine die. I keep telling myself...they are just chickens, I eat some of them anyway....but it doesn't work.
I check mine at day 8 (I don't bother checking earlier because some die around days 4-8, then the day I put them into lock down. I turn mine by hand 3 times a day and get a fantastic result from that. Although I raised the humidity this time and had some probs. I just need a really broody chicken.

This time I got eggs that are supposed to be a mix of a really broody breed. They are silky crossed with " egg laying breeds". I've heard silkys are great broody hens. I am hoping several hens hatch, and that one will want to set in a year or two. While I cannot own a rooster I can get eggs and just tuck them under the hen. Seems better that way then i wouldn't have to bother with anything.

This is my first hatch. It is day 21, and one chicken is out moving around. 10 more eggs have little pecks out of them, and two of which have full holes. My incubator is crapping out and not reading the temperature properly. Because of this, the temperature is going up and down substantially (mainly up, to 104, then we unplug the incubator and it drops down again). The fully hatched chicken has been out for about 8 hours. He is looking rather uncomfortable (although, I don't know what he should look like). What should I do? It is nearly 11 at night, and I can't keep watching the temperature all night. Should I take the eggs out and put them all in the brooder under a heat lamp? Should I help the eggs break open? Help! help!
