My first time incubating eggs with my grandkid. One of the eggs was breaking open and you could hear the chick chirping. Well my 3 yr old granddaughter knocked the incubator on to the floor. One successful hatch. The rest are cracked but moving. If I don’t get anymore hatches do I need to purchase a few chicks from the farm store or can I raise this one by itself and put it with m other chickens when it’s ready.

I think they might surprise you. Just depends on how badly they were damaged and how close they were to hatching. If they've absorbed all or most of their yolk and blood they could be fine. Read up on the assisted hatching threads. Decide how comfortable you are assisting if necessary. Learn what to look for to know when they're ready to assist.

Only one successful hatch. The other eggs didn’t survive so we will be getting a few more from the local farm store. Thanks for all the information.

if you don’t want a lot of chicks right now the loner will be fine with just two more buddies. But the more the merrier.
