It depends on how much you plan on incubating and how many .. if you are just wanting to hatch a few at a time i would you cant beat a hovabator for the price.. i would get a turner with it.. i have an old 1602N with circulated air and it works fine. i use it mostly for a hatcher as i built a cabinet bator .. you can look around and check on craigs list and find used foam bators pretty cheap.. if you want to hatch more i would suggest a GQF sportsman .. you said you had a homemade bator . what is it made of and what kind of themostat does it have and what is the heat source and is it still air or does it have a fan.. just thought maybe i could try to help you with the one you have
