Incubator smelling bad!

Hey BYC! I have 8 eggs in the incubator but it is starting to smell bad! What is wrong? All of my eggs are alive and doing well but one has a crack and still alive! Is it from the cracked egg or just something else! Please help!

Yes but there is still some duck poop from when they first got in there. It was on the eggs and fell to the bottom. Maybe that’s the problem?

My vote is the poop, if you are sure the cracked egg is still alive. If you can, clean out the poo with some Clorox wipes or something and see if the smell dissipates or stays.

IF the cracked egg is viable (movement and veins) candle wax on the crack. If it smells that bad I'm guessing it's rotting.

Pick up and sniff test each egg. Handle with care. Anything that smells could explode. Rotten eggs smell distinctive. Not the "barnyard" smell you'll get from poop on eggs or the incubator. It's very different.

Sometimes people think a quitter is still alive if they " see movement". However this may not be the case. What could be happening be the egg has quit and the insides shifts around when it's handled. Look for veins and movement completely independent of yours (put it on a table or hold incredibly still).

Post pictures of any eggs in question here. This is a very helpful forum.

If it is the incubator I've cleaned them before mid hatch. When doing a staggered hatch. Probably took 15 minutes or less. I use styrofoam tabletop ones. It wasn't a big deal but I've been hatching for a couple of hear. I would hate to advise someone else to do this and there be an issue. It would be a good idea to tough it out and deal with the smell.
