incubator stats for today

temp is fluctuating from 100.03- 102.00 F

humidity is 47%

how does this sound? I have not done hatching eggs since last october of 2006

What type of bator? Is that the air temp, or are you using a Water snake?

Also, forced air or still?

its a brower top hatch. It has a built in turner and fan.

Those are air temps. I am trying to find some sall ziplock bags to make a water wiggler.

this was the same air temp as last year though and had a good 50/50 hatch.

Maybe just a TAD high for forced air? Personally I'd adjust it down about 1/2 degree if you can make that small of an adjustment.

I been try9ing sinc monday to get a fraction of it down. if a turn it a little the themp will drop to 97.00F-98.05F. This is as close as I can get it. If i turn it a centemeter it will say 99.8-100.07F then jump back to what it is at now.

Hi, if you have been successful, I wouldn't change a thing.
I have a brower. I didn't like it at first. But the problem was a thermometer that was too sensitive. I kept the temps near 100 to 100+scant because I found that even with the fan, I was getting temperature gradients that were supposed to be even temps thruout with the fan. My thermometer was set on top of the eggs. The one big improvement I made was to wrap the body in bubble wrap. Then I lay a piece over the top, esp in the middle. If you feel the lid, you can see that you lose alot of heat thru it. It gets very warm esp in the middle. That kept the temps stable , the most stable I've gotten.
The other thing is that next time, I will cage the lightbulb with something. I noticed that my chicks were touching the lightbulb with their beak. I didn't want them burned. Other than
that, I really like it. Never had to open it.

Thanks I had another BYC member give me advice about bubble wrap. The middle where the bulb is gets very hot so thats where most of the heat is leaving. I just hope I get a good hatch cause I like the hove bator but I had to turn the eggs myself and lost most of the heat opening and closing the lid. After this hatch if it fails I will go to the PO down the road and pick some up.

Just wanted to pass this along..

I didn't have a water wiggler. Tried the ziploc-baggy but wasn't very happy with it.

So my solution? Left over balloon from one of the kid's birthdays! I filled the inside with water that was the right temp to start (although it dropped a few degrees by the time I put it in the 'bator), stuck a mercury-bulb type thermom in it, and elastic-d the thing closed. Seems to work like a charm, and I feel like it really simulates an egg (right size and shape).
