Hi all

My incubator stopped working due to a power supply fault this afternoon, the eggs were cold when we realised but we are unsure as to how long they went without heat, we don't think it was longer than a couple of hours. Do we have any hope of them surviving? Unfortunately one was a twin as well so really hoping for a miracle.

Thanks, Ria

Here is a good article from Brinsea on temp and hatching eggs. http://www.brinsea.com/customerservice/poweroff.html how much effect it will have depends on how far along the eggs are and how long they were cold, older embryos are more susceptible to cold, but at least any chicks that survive don't seem to have problems from it ... from the article:
"The cooling delays hatching but not by as much as the period of chilling - so there appears to
be some degree of compensation. The older the embryo, the more likely it is to die as a result
of chilling to below 27°C/80.6°F but the effect on surviving embryos is not detrimental."
Good luck with the hatch.

Thanks so much for your reply. Looks like luck was on our side and the eggs are OK, even the twins made it through! Roll on hatching time at the weekend.
