incubator tips for 1588?

I keep a hygrometer in the incubator.

If you cut a piece of cheesecloth to fit the bottom of the incubator (on top of the wire) it will let the humidity and air circulate and cleanup is a lot easier. Also keeps the little ones from getting poked on the sharp wire ends.

Well, I got the hygrometer and the tubing (ingenious!) and just put the eggs in. I then realized I'd already made my first stupid mistake by adding cold water to the trough. Jeeze Louise. I added a note to the front to only add warm water to remind myself in the future. Sheesh. Hopefully the slow rise of temp will not be a problem since they're only just starting out. Oy. We shall see, huh?

So, am I at day zero now? And the evening of April 16 would be day 18 right? When lockdown occurs? Don't want to get that part wrong!

I keep a small pitcher of water at room temp and leave the two spots vacant under the vent hole and use an eye dropper to add water and maintain the proper humidity.

My advice is a little silly, but we put our incubator on top of the big dog crate with a piece of plywood under it. In a room that has a steady temp and no one bothering it. That room happend to be me and my husbands bedroom. Note to self it is impossible to sleep with chicks hatching and peeping all night long!!!

I love my 1588. I have a hygrometer in there, but find that by following the instructions of filling the correct wells, the humidity stays pretty much consistent at 45-50%. Good luck.... let us know how it goes!
