Incubator Upgrade?? Do you think this is possible?

I just had a thought. . . . Everyone seems to have some level of trouble regulating their incubator temp if they have the kind with the wafer. Personally, I have a Hovabator and I have to watch it like a hawk. Do you think it's possible to disconnect the existing temp control and install the hot water heater thermostat that many of you are using in your homemade incubators?

You can but it would be a waist of money if you purchased the incubator just to remove the part. You should just buy the parts

You can buy a solid state one for the LG and Hova.

I'm not sure if you could I don't have one to compare to. Don't you have to have a light or something else to wire the hot water element to? You might want to email redneck or missprissy or Jimnjay they might know more about it. I know when I made mine it is wired to my light fixture. I would hate for you to mess up your incubator cutting the wires and it not work once you rewired it. Maybe someone on here has one they have altered and could chime in on it.

it may be a better idea to just make a home made bator like mine/redneck/missprissy etc. The "major" expense was the $8 hotwater thermostat. The rest of the bator's cost is negligble. Would save you potentially damaging the hovabator..you could even sell that and have change left over after you built your own one.

Thanks for all the input, guys. Sounds like I need to leave well enough alone. I will look into the solid state ones, though - didn't realize you could purchase these parts.

I have a homemade bator that was just on a dimmer switch and it wasn't working very well. Maybe I'll take that and try the hotwater heater thermostat in it. I don't know what to do about a turner, though. During the school year I am gone from 6:15 am to 6:30 pm (sometimes later) and I really need the turner. Someone needs to come up with a homemade turner!!!!!!LOL

I think I will play "electrician" this weekend and see what happens!!!
