I just ordered an incubator but the instructions are not plain. I need to know how much water do I but in it. Also do I need a humidity gauge. It is a Janoel12. I am new at help please

Personally I love love LOVE my Janoel 12.

Any incubator needs a hygrometer, even if it has a built in one. For poultry, you shouldn’t need additional humidity until lockdown (unless you’re dry hatching). Mine tends to be between 20% and 40% until lockdown.

When lockdown comes round the corner I add water gradually until my hygrometers read 60/70%.

Some people have issues with the Janoel incubators but I find mine works really well for me, any issues are my fault.

What does lockdown mean
'Lockdown' is a term some peeps use to describe the last 3 days of incubation. The term lockdown came about as some peeps also don't open the incubator during the last 3 days, they raise the humidity and don't open it until the hatch is done, therefore, lockdown came about for describing this period of time.

Thank you. Can I go to You Tube to see how to set it up. How much water do I put in it? I hate to be a bother.

Humidity is really down to what you think, you get the hang of it after a while. Some people say 50%, others (like me) up to 70%.

I’d start with half a cup of water then see what your hygrometer is reading.

For sure you should be able to find videos about lockdown :)

No bother, glad to help! What brand/model of incubator do you have?

ETA - nevermind I see it's the Janoel 12. I'm not familiar with that brand but probably is vid's on YouTube. There's also a few peeps on here that have that model. You can do a search and see what turns up or maybe someone reading this can chime in.

You should get a separate hygrometer/temperature gauge to put in there and then calibrate the temps/humidity to make sure your incubator is running correctly.
