What type of incubators do you’ll suggest. My first is a plain Jane non forced air, no turner, etc. I am looking to upgrade. Are the countertop or cabinet type ones better? Can anyone suggest a good brand. I am not looking to spend a fortune, but willing to pay for good quality that would make hatching easier. I am predominately trying to hatch quail and pheasants.

I think that whatever you get depends LARGELY on how much you are prepared to spend and how MANY chicks you intend to hatch each month.

WHATEVER that situation may be...I feel like you should get something with an automatic egg-turner.

P.S. I have 2 Little Giants...one with a turner and another without..which is my "Hatcher". I have no need for anything larger.

I've had a sportsmen for 11 years and every year there is something that goes wrong with it.I put 5 turning motors in this bator in the 11 years, way to much extra cash spent.I got sick of replacing parts and bought a dickey last year.I didn't have a good hatch rate due to a growth inside the brand new bator.Hatching pheasants is frustrating as all hell.I have the dickey running now with a test batch of african harlequian quail eggs. They are due to hatch the 22nd of march, hopefully things will work.I wonder if were better off just letting cochins hatch them out and brood them inside.
What breeds of pheasants do you raise?

I have ringnecks and red goldens. I dont mind spending money, I would like to keep it under 1K. I currently have 5 ringneck females and 2 red golden females and 10 quail females. I would like to hatch whatever they lay. We are using them for meat. Thanks for the info.

I like the GQF sportsman I have 6 , and have not had to replace any parts except the waffer. Had some more than 20 years, You could hatch about 300 at a time, or set a tray every week.

Check around for used ones, should find one for about half price of a new one.

I get most of mine used.

I have to agree I love the sportsman. Mine is over 10 years old and that is just for as long as -I've- owned it. It has to be close to 20 years old and still runs great!
