indoor cages for quail

Ok,im looking for ideas for indoor cages for quail.i no fish tanks are bad so does any one no about bin cages or small animal or anyone have theres inside?Is it safe to free range them indoors? i cant keep them out side since we have way to many raccoons. Also how big should the cage be since it needs to hold 6 female coturnix (maybe jumbo) quail. Thank you!

Hey, so i keep 8 Cots inside (maybe Jumbo's can't be too sure), i had 10 then 2 died.

I keep em in a rabbit hutch cage like this one. Hmm... about free-ranging, quails don't do free-ranging. Quails concept of free-ranging is just walking around head held low and picking at some food on the floor. (They tend not to wander too far from cage, around 3-5 meters is their max), they won't come back to the cage, they'll pick a nice shady place, after they've eaten and just sit there. You'll have to go pick em up and put em back. Quails don't usually free range anyway, they need 1 square foot (at least) and in breeding season more. Try to not have more than 1 male in a pen, (in the beginning it will be okay, after a couple months THERE WILL BE BLOOD!). Off breeding season you can keep em together (not 100% on this). Also the best cage i have seen (appealed to me the most) is the battery style cage. (Youtube it, and Google image it), I think it's illegal in the UK and some other places 'cause people used it for animal cruelty (shoved 100 quail in a metre squared or something equally as tight), if i had that i wouldn't do that. They are my pets but cleaning, feeding, watering (haha, watering quail), and collecting eggs it would be the best!

I keep my male CP in a large plastic box with a soft blanket as roofing.

I keep mine in a rabbit hutch similar to the one posted but mine has a pull out tray and wire floor. I've had 2 males and 4 females in there at once without too many issues. They were all broodmates (only the 6 of them) so that helps keep the peace. I would let them out into the bird room and they would roam around. The floor has hardwood. The problem is their poop. Some are lighter colorded and will dry crumbly. Those are fine and easy to clean. Some are sticky, tarry, black, and smelly. Those will stain any carpet you may have and are hard to get out. Quail also don't care where they step so you know it will be smeared everywhere.

They love to hide under and behind things. And if you approach them, they hunker down and remain very quiet until you are almost right on top of them and at that point, they "flush" and jump straight up.

They do make good pets, but I'm just warning you about clean up.

If you get them a sand box, I highly recommend a Chinchilla sand box. It's like a little covered house. My quail love them and the sand mostly stays inside the box which is important indoors.

Mine are in guinea pig cages with plastic bases and metal wire tops.

hello I have 2 male conturnix quail in with 3 femal conturnix quail in a cage like this they have been fine the males are 1 year old and female 6weeks old next breeding season will the females brood?
