Did not know where to post this. Please let me know if I should move to another section of BYC and I will. Brought 3 chicks home from my sons kinder class. Only 2 are girls. The one my son ADORES is a roo (and not allowed where I live). The girls are not allowed in the house but if Blakey sits on a blanket without getting up, I let him in the house to "watch" my son build legos. This darn rooster will still for him for hours (seriously, hours!). He does try to stand up but KC will firmly place his hand on his body and I will be darned if the silly bird does not just defer to him and sit down again. And then you'd think he'd run away once the hand was off him but know, you look over at him a second later and he has gone to sleep. It is CRAZY, but I grew up with dogs so this is all knew to me.

Anyways, I ordered a diaper today so the poor thing can at least run around without totally being at my son's whim while in the house. But my son has him so well socialized that he will actually jump up in your lap in hopes of getting pets or some people time. Now he is only 3 mo old so this may change, I have heard roos get aggressive, but for now, this roo is better behaved than my dog!!!!

Is there such a thing as an indoor pet chicken? Cuz in theory, it would keep him from fertilizing the eggs (don't want chicks, just eggs), would be less risky painful on the neighbors if he is in here in the am when he crows (which he does at 8am or 9am right now, fairly quietly), and I have a hard time getting my son up so this might just be the all around best fix ever.

Anyone?

You could if you really wanted to, I suppose. It would be like having any other bird in the house, I guess. But let me ask you. Is that any life for a chicken? And I think it would still be illegal, inside or outside.

I don't know where you stand finantully, but could you move to a place where you could have him? Just brain storming.
