I was wondering if there is anyone who keeps a chicken inside their house and also has parrots. I'm wondering how you keep the two and if you worry about cross contamination, etc.

I've been wondering this too as we have two parrots and our chickens always come into the house via the bathroom window while we're outside and come in to find our hens wandering through the house xD

Our situation is a little different since Dagbert is actually living inside with us fulltime and using things like the grapevine parrot stand!:) Our avian vet said we should keep him separate from the parrots because chickens have different digestive tracts and can be known to carry salmonella and different strains of E.coli. I talked to a friend who has kept chickens and parrots for a few years and has one who does live indoors and she said that as long as you keep your chickens healthy, it shouldn't be a problem. So, we're just foraging on carefully and keeping a good eye on the parrots. I lost one Eclectus male two years ago to E.coli, so I know what to look for and to move fast if I see the signs...I guess it's the best we can do because Daggy isn't going anywhere!
