Indoor turkeys

As I understand the zip tie is loose it just prevents the birds throat from expanding to crow. Properly done you can insert two fingers between the tie and the chicken so it's not going to strangle the bird. I read it here but I've read hundreds of posts so don't ask which one says it but the review was positive as in it works and does NOT harm the bird.

I've never had chickens or any poultry. Has anyone done the zip tie around the neck to keep a rooster from crowing and if so does it work on toms?

Just my own personal opinion. I don't think that is a good idea at all. If someone doesn't want the noise they shouldn't get the types of animals that make that noise. To me thats like saying hey my dogs too noisey we should debark it. Again just my opinion and not meant to offend you.

How close are your neighbors? My neighbors are pretty close to me and I have 4 roosters and 2 Toms. They can get noisy at times but its not horrible. Toms typically only gobble when something disturbs or startles them. I got into the routine of not letting the animals out of their coop, including not letting my dogs out of the house until 8am. That way I am being considerate of sleeping neighbors. Doing something like that might help neighbors deal with the noise.

I'm sure I'd like the sound, it's annoying others I want to mitigate. Thanks for other ideas.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!! Our 3 Toms gobble quite a bit, but it is not annoying at all...we like it. We also have 6 roosters crowing (3 Black Jersey Giants, 1 Light Brahma, 1 American Buff Orpington and a Barred Rock). The Jersey boys start at 3:30 AM...inside their coop..hahahaha. However, we have a barker of a dog so no one goes out before 9 AM on weekends. We did get a bark collar on Monday tho...FANTASTIC. I would never, never dream of putting a zip tie around my children's (I mean chicken's) necks but I was thinking what a pile of money a miniature bark collar for a rooster could make....LOL.

So you would never dream of having a loose piece of plastic around a roosters neck to prevent it from crowing but a shock collor which is loose fitting and made of plastic that electrocutes the animal for short bursts is ok? I swear I don't get some peoples logic. No offence.

Imagine the roosters throat expanding with a shock collar on, the collar would prevent it from doing so just like the tie except now there are two metal studs jamming the chicken in the throat. Yeah that's humane.

Anyone have a cattle prod for sale my cat needs to learn not to meow. (Sarcasm)

OK people..I was also joking...if I wouldn't dream of putting a zip tie around my rooster's neck, I certainly wouldn't put a shock collar on one...just figured there would be someone out there who would consider making money from developing one - someone who DIDN'T own birds.
