I have a rooster who has had signs of SLM for a bit. I caught him the other week to apply vaseline and noticed that one of his spurs was sort of loose. I did the SLM treatment and didn't get a chance to reapply till today and I took another look at the spur while I was at it. There was a sort of scab along the base of the spur which I decided to remove and it appeared to come away with a bit of pus? There was also a small amount of discoloured fluid. The spur is still very much loose and there appears to be a bit of swelling? How should I go about treating this?

Will he stand in a tub of warm water with either Epsom salts or a cap full of dish soap or chlorhexidene for about 20 minutes a day? Betadine or povidone iodine would also work to disinfect the infected area. Then you can reapply the oil or ointment to his scales.
