This morning I went out to the coop to change my chickens' water and give them food and I was looking at my silkie. Recently we have had a problem with him breaking blood feathers on his feet (we aren't sure if it's because the straw is too course and we should be using pine shavings instead) but I noticed that one of his toes looked kind of swollen. I looked closer and saw that the top part of his toe was black and looked kind of shrively and had a little bit of blood around it. Now there is puss around it so im pretty positive it's infected. How it got cut and everything I have no idea. I looked on the bottom of his foot and there isn't any black spots or anything so I don't think its bumblefoot. Should I start soaking his foot in an Epsum salt/vinegar/warm water mix? What do I do about the infected part? Is there anything else I should do? Help!
