This morning I went out to the coop to change my chickens' water and give them food and I was looking at my silkie. Recently we have had a problem with him breaking blood feathers on his feet (we aren't sure if it's because the straw is too course and we should be using pine shavings instead) but I noticed that one of his toes looked kind of swollen. I looked closer and saw that the top part of his toe was black and looked kind of shrively and had a little bit of blood around it. Now there is puss around it so im pretty positive it's infected. How it got cut and everything I have no idea. I looked on the bottom of his foot and there isn't any black spots or anything so I don't think its bumblefoot. Should I start soaking his foot in an Epsum salt/vinegar/warm water mix? What do I do about the infected part? Is there anything else I should do? Help! .

Update: we put both feet into a hot water/epsom salt/vinegar bath for about 15-20 minutes to try to clean it. He's in the large dog kennel in the garage right now and the toe is bandaged up. Any and all help would be much appreciated!
